Mammosite Breast Cancer Treatment

Breast Cancer

Options in breast cancer treatment used to be few, but with more available today, a woman can feel more in control of her treatment choices and her body.

The preferred option in early detection breast cancer is Breast Conserving Treatment. This involves a lumpectomy and follow up radiation.

To further enhance the radiation treatment, known as Brachytherapy, a catheter may be inserted into the site of the lumpectomy so that radiation can be delivered only to this area, and not the entire breast. Radiation therapy is delivered using this mechanism twice daily, for five consecutive days

Prerequisites for Mammosite Therapy

Certain conditions must be met for entry to this treatment program.

  1. The caner must be small [ less that 3mm in diameter]
  2. The patient must be over age 45
  3. There is no lymph node involvement.
  4. There is no metastatic disease.
