Normal cases of Acne can
be treated by family physicians, or general practitioners. Severe
cases of Acne are best
treated by dermatologists.
Acne Treatments
Treatment of acne aims at eliminating the existing acne and avoiding
recurring acne. This is done using a combination of two treatment
protocols:
Remove clogged oils and dead skin from the pore
Remove bacteria surrounding the pore
Acne Myths Confusing Diagnosis
Dr. Scott Robertson discusses causes, diagnosis and the latest
treatments for acne.
Medication Acne Treatments
Medications used in the treatment to clear acne are intended to
avoid the clumping of the cells in the follicles, control the bacteria
and reduce inflammation and reduce the oil production in the glands.
Medicines or drugs may be topical or systemic or even a combination
of both. Most common over the counter topical medicines usually
used in the treatment of the Acne contain benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol,
salicylic acid and sulphur.
All these medicines are available in a variety of bases like gels,
creams, soaps and lotions.
Topical Treatments
Topical treatments that are most effective against acne are Anti-DHT
products, such as Clearogen, that control acne by eliminating
the ability of DHT to cause excessive oil within the sebaceous glands.
Products that both limit oil production and contain benzoyl peroxide
are effective in mild to moderate acne.
Benzoyl Peroxide
While the benzoyl peroxide helps to reduce the oil production and
also as a bacterium killing agent, the remaining drugs are used
to remove the blackheads and reduce inflammation. More on Benzoyl
Peroxide.
Accutane
The only "permanent" treatment for acne on the market
is Accutane. Unfortunately, Accutane can have multiple side-effects
and must be prescribed by a physician. Other acne treatment must
to be continued to prevent the acne and lesions from recurring.

Acne Treatment Product Comparison
A comparison of three methods of acne medications. ProActiv, OXY,
and prescription. Basically, OXY (over the counter) works just as
well as ProActive, and costs 1/10 the price.
Considerations
Although acne has been treated for may years using a number of
different, powerful drugs, these drugs have demonstrated frequent
and dangerous side effects. "Standard medical treatment has
focused on suppressing symptoms, with three tiers of successively
more risky drug therapies. The effect of this treatment is a net-negative.
The symptoms may be so suppressed so the individual notices results
for a period of time. But in the long run, these drugs actually
make the condition worse".
